Hello CrossFit on 18th
One of the reasons CrossFit burns more calories than any other exercise isn’t necessarily that you can burn more calories in an hour than say a cardio kickbox class (even though it can and does). It’s because the nature of what is called High Intensity Functional Movements across broad Time and Modal domains raises your resting metabolic rate. So you actually burn more calories sitting on the couch after your workout more than any other type of exercise or training!
This weeks CrossFit Games Open WOD is a perfect example of a functional movement performed at high intensity. First the WOD:
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 5 minutes of:
Squat clean and Jerk (165 pounds men and 110 pounds women)
Lets look at why this is the case. Over the course of a normal day we have bend over and squat to pick objects off the floor or table and we often have to lift the same objects overhead. The clean and jerk ties all of these basic human movements into one neat package. We also have to have great core strength to stabilize the midline of the body to lift and to hold a weight (of any size) overhead.
Going all the way from the ground, into a full squat and then lifting all the way overhead can be described as moving a large load over a long distance. This by nature is high in its intensity AND couple that with doing it quickly increases the intensity even more.
Put all that together and you have an incredible opportunity to burn more calories and raise your metabolism.
At CrossFit on 18th you have the opportunity to share this experience with a large room full people with the same purpose. That purpose is to get into the best shape of your life regardless of athletic background and age.
See you Thursday for this workout at all 4 CrossFit Workouts.
