Growing up as a active, optimistic, but “bring it on” type kid. My mother put me in almost every athletic activity she could, I played year around. I was surrounded by good coaches and mentors, who taught me the fundamentals I live by from a very early age.

I learned to take a personal interest and pride in being on a team. That lesson of teamwork, of everyone working toward a common goal, and having empathy and understanding with the person next to you influenced the way I train in my classes and how I live my life. It’s my job to turn your nervous anxiety into focused energy, encouraging you to do your best each and every workout. It may not be fun every moment, but the success of your accomplishment makes the journey rewarding.

I know it takes both physical and mental toughness to achieve your goals. One of the best things about Crossroads Bootcamp is having that team support. Now, WE work as a team to help YOU reach your goals. With consistency and positive changes, your quality of life can and will improve greatly. Increased physical stamina, confidence and a positive mental attitude…. What more do you want?

One of my favorite sayings is a quote by Carl W Buechner, “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” It’s my job to help you feel motivated, successful and strong.

So, quit thinking and GET DOING. Let’s give this a shot.

Through years of teaching dance and fitness I have been fortunate to work with an incredibly diverse range of individuals, from professional athletes to first-timers with 2 left feet (aka, zero rhythm!). This experience translates seamlessly into Crossroads Bootcamp, where a body in ANY level of fitness can benefit from, be inspired and love, this class.

YOU are your only competition! All you need is enthusiasm, energy and determination for a high intensity, well rounded, challenging workout. And if you feel you might need a bit more support or enthusiasm, I have plenty to share!

It takes a certain kind of person to want to feel their muscles, lungs and minds being pushed to their limits. I thrive on that adrenaline, and my goal is to help you find that piece of you that wants to push harder, jump higher and sweat buckets, while you beam through it all!

As a team, your Crossroads Bootcamp instructors are all here for you. Your efforts reap real results. With our encouragement you can literally bound into the greatest mental and physical shape of your life. You have the power and the drive. All you have to do is show up. Do it!

Having two babies in two years wreaked major havoc on my body, I knew I needed to mix it up to get back to my pre-baby body. As an avid long distance runner, my body was used to having the kind of endurance to get through a 26.2 mile race, what it wasn’t used to was flipping tractor tires, running sprints with a medicine ball over my head and doing push ups until I couldn’t find the strength to lift my toothbrush the next day. I truly believe in these workouts, they are an effective use of your time and you WILL reach your goals. I did, and I am now in better shape than I was before I had my children.

With years of group fitness and personal training under my belt, teaching Crossroads Bootcamp classes seemed like a new, exciting challenge for me. I have truly enjoyed coming up with new class formats and teaching styles to continue to mix it up and keep the workouts fresh.

I push my clients to get out of their comfort zones to get maximum results because I know, from personal experience, it’s the only way to get the body you want.

Spreading the word of overall fitness to other has always been a priority of mine. Athletics and strength training has been a major part of my life. Playing sports and keeping active throughout the years has kept me physically and mentally strong for the active life I live. CrossFit and Boot Camp training was introduced to me in August 2009 and I haven’t looked back since. The high-intensity, constantly varied functional movements have changed my perspective on the type of training I should pursue in my life.

I became CrossFit Level 1 Certified in April 2010, teaching CrossFit workouts at my home gym in Indianapolis. I moved to Kansas City at the end of July 2010 and found Crossroads Boot Camp & CrossFit on 18th. My goal for the clients of Crossroads Boot camp is to develop fitness that provides an equal balance of strength, endurance, and mobility. By achieving these aspects in the gym, you will see these results flow into the workplace and in life itself.

Here is a quote that truly has motivated me and hopefully you when coming to our gym…

“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” –Bruce Lee

Don’t hold back, go beyond the limits in life…3, 2, 1…GO!!!

Your hip flexors are actually two muscles, the Iliacus and the Psoas Major. The Iliacus originates on your pelvic crest and attaches on the top of the femur, which is the big bone in your leg. The Psoas Major starts at the lumbar vertebrae and attaches to the femur.

The hip flexors are commonly strained from sports, overuse, improper exercise and sometimes lack of use. Common symptoms of a hip flexor strain are pain in the front of the hip, often confused as groin pain. Pain is generally worse with lifting the leg up toward the chest.

Often accompanied with a hip flexor problem is knee pain. Because the quadriceps muscle also functions as a hip flexor when strained pain can be experienced in the knee.

In addition to overuse, sitting down puts these muscles in a shortened position. After any extended time in this shortened position, they actually do not want to stretch back to their correct length. When they get tight, they pull on the lower back and cause low back pain. They also pull your pelvis into an unnatural tilt, which all sorts of strange actions on your spine when you load it to press overhead or squat.

Listen to Coaches Scott Lofquist and Matreena Noland’s tips for keeping your hip flexors and hamstrings strong and long for better lifting technique and injury prevention.
