Whether it is to lose weight or to earn more money, people are always looking for short cuts. We all want instant results because none of us likes to wait for our rewards. This is why we have microwave dinners and fast food drive ins. These “instant” foods cater to a society that doesn’t want to wait and expect results instantly.
Finding a short cut is sometimes beneficial. In fact, there will be times when you’re able to get your desired results using the shortest amount of time and resources. But in most cases, shortcuts don’t really provide us a pathway to success- they just provide a short cut. Most things worth having are also worth investing in. That means putting in the time to become knowledgeable about your goals and the means to accomplishing them.
If we are so smart, why is the weight loss gimmick industry making millions?
We find it interesting that people fork out lots of money for slimming programs or fat loss pills but won’t lace up a pair of tennis shoes or get on their bikes. Most of those supposed miracle programs or pills are expensive and rarely yield long term results. Despite this, rational people will still turn around and buy the next big slimming product advertised on TV. That’s because it promises results. Big ones. But everyone knows results don’t come in a pill.
If you want to lose weight and get in shape, we have to tell you something. Losing fat is easy. The principles behind weight loss are to eat healthier and exercise more. And guess what! They work! So why are 60% of Americans overweight?
It Is Hard Work!
Yes, you are right if you guessed hard work. Theories are simple, but it takes hard work to execute them. Exercising 5 times a week is hard work. Giving up your favorite fried chicken may be a hard choice. These things are hard to do and we humans tend to avoid things that can cause us pain. Why do something so painful when there are gimmicks that (shortcuts/slimming products) promise eating a pill daily can help you lose 20lbs in a month? Sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it?
The point isn’t about losing weight. It’s about putting in hard work into achieving your goals, whatever they are.
We’re all guilty of wanting something quick. But the truth is anything worth having is worth working for- be that a better body, a better relationship, a better opportunity. There really are no shortcuts to building something you know you’ve worked hard to achieve. The results in life are congruent to the amount of effort you put into it.
How You Can Achieve More In Life?
You can start by accepting that you are going to have to put your goals at the top of your priorities. If it’s not important to you, you will never achieve it. Secondly, you’re going to have to create a plan for your success. If you do not plan to succeed, you are planning to fail. The more concrete and clearly defined your plan, the better. You cannot wait to have the plan in place-your plan is literally the blueprint for your success. Last but not least, you must enlist help- from your friends, your family, your trainers. No matter how strong you are as an individual, you will still benefit greatly from the shared experience of your community. State your goals publicly and ask for accountability. There’s nothing wrong with asking for support!
Making it happen.
When you make your decision to put in hard work to achieve your goals, you are putting yourself in the driver’s seat of your life. Talk without action never created anything, so follow up your decision with action.
